Gene Eldon Shoemaker, 93, Kendallville, formerly of Lake Wawasee, Fishers, and North Fort Myers, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019, at Orchard Pointe Health Campus in Kendallville.
Born November 29, 1926, in Denver, Indiana, he was the son of Glen E. and Sadie Ann Jones Shoemaker.
He was married to Grace Elizabeth Wrenn, and she preceded in death.
He graduated from Chili High School and Butler University. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Guam. A retired pharmacist, he owned and operated Shoemaker Pharmacy in Ligonier for many years. He had his private pilot’s license and owned several planes over the years.
He is survived by one son, Jason G. (Cindy) Shoemaker, Lake Wawasee, Indiana; five grandchildren, Shawn and Jeff Senter; great-grandsons, Jaxon, Cameron, Cole, and Corbin Senter; and his daughter’s three sons, Gabe Plew, Graham, and Geoff Haase.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jan Haase.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, Indiana.
Burial with military rites will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
