John Horace Rusie, 69, Peru, Indiana, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo.
Born May 16, 1954, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of John Amos and Linda (Malinda) Miller Rusie. On October 16, 2003, in Peru, Indiana, he was married to Dana K. Drummond, and she survives.
John attended the Indiana School for the Blind in Indianapolis. He loved listening to audiobooks, especially the Bible and books on WWII. He was a very kind and tender-hearted man who loved his family. He enjoyed The Three Stooges, loved listening to music, and was always up for an adventure, whether it was traveling to a new place, fishing with his family, or being out on the lake driving the boat (which was probably more of an adventure for his passengers). To John, Sunday was for church and cheering for the Colts. Over the years, John had various jobs, including working for his dad at the Miami County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher. He had worked at the paper recycling plant in Peru, TM Morris in Logansport, among other places; he was always challenging his own disability, never letting it get in his way.
Survivors include his wife Dana K. Rusie, Peru; children and bonus children, Myranda L. Rusie (Jimmy Kruschinska), Portland, OR; Jennifer Gatliff, Peru; John Pochintesta, Washington D.C.; Nicole Pochintesta, Michigan; William (Megan) Zellers, Minot, ND; Britainie Zellers, Minot, ND; grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, Samara, Acer, Christian, Felicity, Michael, Irene, Lily, Adeline; three great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Charlotte, and Benson; siblings, Ann (Bill) Friend, Macy; Mary Beth (Byron) Fites, Macy; Mark (Lori) Rusie, Mexico; Teresa Rusie, Peru; bonus siblings, Florence McKinley, Peru; and Cara (Dale) Graham, Macy; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
