Albert Henry Leazenby, 90, Mexico, Indiana, passed away Sunday morning, April 1, 2018, at his residence.
Born May 23, 1927, in Rochester, Indiana. He was the son of Ezra and Ida Alma Weiger Leazenby.
He was married on November 24, 1957, to the former Shirley, Ann Strayer, at the Plato Methodist Church in LaGrange County. She passed away on July 7, 2017.
He was an active member of the New Life United Methodist Church, Mexico, Indiana, where he served on mission’s teams and sang in the choir. He owned and operated his own barber shop in Mexico for over sixty-one years. He was active in his community and served with the Mexico Lions Club, Mexico Businessmen’s Association, and Greenlawn Cemetery Association. He was a Justice of the Peace, performing many wedding ceremonies in his home. For over twenty years, he served as secretary for the Miami County Bowling Association. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and greatly enjoyed cheering on the IU Hoosiers’ basketball team. He enjoyed fishing and traveling in his younger years.
He was a United States Navy veteran, joining at the age of sixteen and serving on the USS Columbus, which helped to sink the submarine that was responsible for the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. He was a member of the V.F.W., and for several years was active with their Thanksgiving meal program.
Survivors include one son, Randy L. Leazenby, Lafayette, Indiana; and four cousins, Betty Heddens, Edward “Bud” Leazenby, Gary Leazenby, and Dennis Leazenby . He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Ann Leazenby; brother, Edward Leazenby; and sister, Lillian Webster.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, at New Life United Methodist Church, Mexico, Indiana, with Pastor John Meunier officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana, with military honors provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the church.
