Anita June (Snyder) Burrous

June 9, 1931 — October 1, 2023

Indianapolis, Indiana

Anita June (Snyder) Burrous passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2023, at the age of 92 after several days filled with family and love.

She was born in Peru, Ind., on June 9, 1931 to the late Earl Snyder and Clara Fincher/Snyder, and was married to Kermit O. Burrous on Oct. 29, 1950.  She grew up in Mexico, Ind., and graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1949. She attended Ball State University along with her husband, who preceded her in death on May 26, 2010.

Anita is survived by her three children, Eric O. Burrous of Greenwood, Deborah L. (Allan) Reed of Danville and Elaine K. (Stephen) Rinehart of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Jessica Reed (James Cook) of Danville, Daniel (Adrienne) Reed of Union, KY , Renee (Tanveer) Kathawalla of Alexandria, VA and Emily (Casey) Tyre of Lakeland, FL; two great grandchildren, Henry and Everett Reed; sisters Virginia Langston, Debary, FL, Vivian (Tom) Clark, Loveland, CO and sister-in-law, Bernita Goble, Peru, IN.

She is remembered for her loving support of family and friends, her passion for gardening, and her quiet influence on the lives of those around her. Throughout her life, she gave freely to her local church, to the United Methodist Women’s School of Christian Missions, and was regularly a delegate to United Methodist Annual, Jurisdictional and General Conferences. One of her great joys was serving as the chairperson for the Board of the United Methodist Publishing House. She played the organ for their local church and choir. Anita also was committed to strengthening community life: working through P.E.O., a women’s organization that promotes and encourages education for women and girls; for the Peru Tribune; for Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis); for the Indiana Commission on Aging; and for the Symphony Society that expanded the impact of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to the rest of the state of Indiana.

Visitation will be held at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, IN on October 28, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service following at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the philanthropic organization, P.E.O., whose goal is to celebrate the advancement of women by assisting women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans to help women further their education, or other charity of the donor’s choice.
