Arthur Wayne Wilmoth

July 6, 1936 — February 16, 2017

Arthur Wayne Wilmoth, 80, North Manchester, a poet and author of several books (unpublished), passed away on February 16, 2017, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, Indiana.  He was lovingly attended by his long-time friend, Dorothy Bumbaugh, who oversaw his care in recent years.  Mr. Wilmoth was a resident of North Manchester since 2013, where he developed friends in the intellectual community and shared many occasions and activities of Ms. Bumbaugh’s family of adult children and grandchildren.

Born near his grandfather’s ranch in New Mexico, Art was the only child of Noel and Alma Palmer Wilmoth.  He was a perpetual honor roll student through high school in Truth or Consequences and was awarded a full scholarship at the University of New Mexico.  After transferring to a Christian seminary in Florida, he graduated with honors in Humanities.  Not wanting to pursue a career in the clergy, Mr. Wilmoth owned an electrical contracting company in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  For decades he enjoyed high level security clearance to do work at the National White Sands facilities.

His early exposure to religious study instilled in a lifetime interest in learning and writing about various world religions and their affect on the history and cultures of people across the globe.  After retiring in Arizona, Mr. Wilmoth pursued advanced studies in Philosophy and Humanities at Prescott College and continued writing a comparative history of religions.

He is survived by nine first cousins and four half-siblings of his father.

His remains will be interred alongside his parents, grandparents, and other relatives at Mount Zion Cemetery, near Dora, New Mexico.

McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.
