Barbara Ellen Stoner

Barbara Ellen McClain Stoner, 82, Peru, passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor, Peru.

Born February 7, 1930 in Peru, Indiana she was the oldest daughter of Tracy Earl and Keturah Elizabeth Cutshall McClain. On December 7, 1947 in Convington, Kentucky she was married to Hugh Edward Stoner, and he preceded in death on December 25, 1996.

Barbara was a member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren, the Peru Gardening Club, and a fifty-year member of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Peru High School in 1948. She later earned her Bachelor's Degree from Manchester College and obtained a Master's in Education from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. She retired from the Miami County Department of Family and Social Services.

She is survived by her four children, Susan Elaine Stoner, Lakewood, Colorado; Jane Ellen Conrad and husband Keith, Peru; Linda Elizabeth Miller and husband Steven, Logansport; and Bryan Edward Stoner and his wife Teresa, Kansas City; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one brother, Hal Wayne McClain, Denver; two sisters-in-law, Betty Anne McClain, Lancaster, PA; and Retha McClain, Lake County, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna May Welty; two brothers, Eugene Earl and Oden Lee McClain; and her twin brother, Bernard Ellis McClain who died as an infant.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Mexico Church of the Brethren with Pastor Dave Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in Chili Cemetery, Chili, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peru Garden Club.
