Betty Marie (Mcmanama) Montgomery

March 16, 1926 — August 29, 2016

Betty Marie Montgomery, 90, Peru, passed away at 6:58 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.

Born March 16, 1926, in Grass Creek, Indiana, she was the daughter of James Henry and Hazel Marie Gillam McManama.  On March 21, 1944, in Grass Creek, Indiana, she was married to Donald Max Montgomery, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Grass Creek High School in 1944.  She was a former President of the Auxiliary at Dukes Hospital, where she volunteered many years as a pink lady.  Together, Betty and Don were active with many horse organizations and both held many offices with the Indiana Quarter Horse Association, Hoosier Palomino Association, and Kokomo Saddle Club.  Betty was an active homemaker, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheri Lynn Montgomery, Peru; and Pamela Sue Montgomery Shively and husband Steven, Peru; seven grandchildren, Megan L. Lippincott, Peru; twins, Andrew L. Lippincott, Hayfield, MN; and Brianne L. (Roy) Timmons, Peru; Virginia Marie (Ronnie) Miller, Ft. Myers, FL; Dustin Adam Shively, Peru; Sarah Beth (Adam) Lawson, Noblesville; and Jacob Miguel Montgomery Shively, Peru; eighteen great-grandchildren, with one one more on the way; and one sister, Hazel Louella Dragoo, Peru.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert McManama; and one sister, Louise Plummer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at New Waverly United Methodist Church, New Waverly, Indiana, with Pastor Mandie Gould officiating.  Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Dukes Hospital Auxiliary or Alzheimer’s Association.
