Betty Routt, 82, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away from a stroke on Monday, May 18 surrounded by her family.

Betty was born in LaPorte, Indiana to Lewis and Laura Eggert. She was the first of seven Eggert children all who still live in the LaPorte area.

Betty fell in love with John Routt and married him on November 28, 1947. She and John had the joy of bringing five wonderful children into this world. Their children include: Dan Routt and wife, Janice; Pat Alspaugh and deceased husband, Dave; Janet Wakefield and husband, Bill, Pam Ranly and Dick Biggs; and Wayne Routt, deceased. Betty and John were blessed with six beautiful grandchildren and ten glorious great grandchildren. Grandchildren include: Jason Alspaugh and daughters Lilly and Belle: Jeremy Ford and wife, Caryln, daughter Alex and sons, Mason and Hayden; Shannon Spaid and husband, Aaron, son, Breven, daughters, Reagan and Makena; Daniel Routt, daughters, Madison and Dreamah; Josh and Lauren Wakefield.

Betty was a life long servant leader in Miami County. She had a heart for helping people and gave her time, talents and treasures freely. She was 4-H leader to hundreds of young people during her 38 years of service. She served on the Miami County 4-H Governing Board, 4-H Council and 4-H Fair Board. She spent many hours cooking at the county fair, pancake days and auctions to help raise money for 4-H. She gave tirelessly to anything that would benefit the young people in 4-H.

She was member of the Allen Twp. Extension Homemakers Club for over 50 years and remained active with the Miami County and Indiana Extension Homemakers, holding various county and state offices. Betty loved her Extension Homemaker friends that she accumulated over the years and never wanted to miss the Annual Achievement Day program. Betty was an excellent seamstress and talented artist, often using these gifts to benefit others.

Betty was also an active volunteer at Duke's Hospital, Salvation Army; and a member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren. Betty and John have been in the same Euchre Club for over 55 years.

Other survivors include: brothers, Wilbur Eggert and wife, Mary; Norman Eggert and wife, Maxine; Lewis Eggert Jr. and wife, Judy; sisters, Katherine Small and husband, Stanley, and Louise Mrozinski and deceased husband, Robert.

A service celebrating the life of Betty will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 22. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 21 and one hour prior to the service. Viewing and funeral will be at the Miami County Community Building at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Burial will be at the Plainview Cemetery, Macy.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Miami County 4-H Council, in care of McClain Funeral Home, 3500 W. State Road 16, Denver, IN 46926 .
