Brent Arthur Tobin

June 12, 1959 — February 10, 2022

Greentown, Indiana

If you’re about to throw something out, then you’d better think twice. For goodness sake “Don’t throw it away!” Those were the infamous words that the Tobin family got all to use to hearing from Brent Arthur Tobin who entered eternal life on Wednesday, February 10, 2022. Brent always had an idea for how to repurpose old knickknacks – which to him were treasures. You may have heard the old saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Well, Brent was that “other man” in the Tobin house. Although this drove his surviving wife, Susan Tobin crazy, it taught the family many valuable lessons. Brent’s “never give up” mentality extended far past old tools and electronics – it’s the reason that Brent was such a loving foster parent for over ten years. He never gave up on any child that was in his care. To him, every child was a blessing with immense worth.

On Sundays, Brent’s kids always knew that he was the one to pester for mints and dollar bills for the coffee bar at church. He was a devout Christian, despite the fact that you could usually catch him nodding off during the sermon – or “praying” as he’d laugh and say. It wasn’t his fault though – Brent worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion with a Master’s degree in Business, as well as, a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from ITTech in Indianapolis. Upon graduating, Brent worked as an Electronics Engineer, Electronics Lab Manager, and as an Electronics Technician for GM/Delphi/Delco for thirty-one years. He was an expert in his field of radio transmission, test & validation of electronics equipment, and in the anechoic chamber where he loved to work.

Brent adopted not 1, not 2, but 5 kids! He is survived by his sons Matt A. Tobin (36), Darrell Tobin (19) (Hailey Watson), Dakota Tobin (16); Allen Tobin (13), Aiden Tobin (12), his daughters Vanessa Hart (28) (Kyle Hart) and Desirae Tobin (18); and his first grandchild, Jesse Hart (11 mo), who was the joy of his last months. Brent was welcomed into Heaven by his adored daughter Harmony Tobin who he was surely overcome with joy to see again.

If you knew Brent, then you knew that sarcasm was his strong suit. Because of this, he wanted to be cremated and put into a granite bench with the saying “have a seat on me” engraved on it. In lieu of flowers, donations for this bench or other monetary gifts for the family’s benefit can be sent through the donations link on his obituary page at www.mcclainfh.com.

As per Brent’s wishes, there will be a celebration of life at Main Occasions 113 E Main St, Greentown, IN, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 4pm– 6pm. We will gather for light snacks, the sharing of memories, and of course some fun sarcasm.

Please share a message of condolence with the family online or join them for the celebration of Brent’s life. McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.
