Carolyn Ruth Knauff, 78, Denver, Indiana, passed away Sunday morning, December 10, 2017, at her residence.
Born October 29, 1939, in Miami County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Lyman Vance and Eathel Fay Walker Mongosa. On February 16, 1959, she was married to Harry E. Knauff, Jr., and he survives.
She was a member of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana, where she had served on Council and Elder Women's Council. She was a strong advocate of sharing her heritage with others.
In addition to her husband Harry E. Knauff, Jr., she is survived by six children, Justin and Vanessa Knauff, Denver; Elvin and Velvet Knauff, Denver; Carrie Knauff, Denver; Florence and Howard Tigler, Wabash; Vincent and Jean Knauff, Peru; and Anthony and Carla Knauff, Denver; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eclista Birner, Peru; Doris Harshman, Peru; and Helen Alexander and husband Dennie, Denver; and two brothers, Delmar Mongosa and wife Beverly, Macy; and Truman Joe Mongosa and wife Debbie, Macy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Allen Mongosa and Lyman "Rudd" L. Mongosa.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Bill Babb officiating.
