Carter C Murphy

Carter C. Murphy, 76, Denver, Indiana, passed away at 11:30 p.m.  on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.

Born October 10, 1940, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of Elvin Banks and Norma E. Butt Murphy.  He was married to Shirlee Ann Wellsand in 1959.

Carter graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1958, and he was a farmer and grain hauler for fifty-eight years.  He was an active member of the Denver Baptist Church, teaching the Cornelius Sunday School Class for over forty-seven years.  He was a charter member of the Denver Lions Club, and was active in the Miami County Historical Society, where he made apple fritters for over twenty-five years for their events.  He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and spending time outdoors enjoying his favorite hobby of fishing, which took him to Canada many times over sixty years.

He is survived by his wife Shirlee Ann Murphy, Denver; three children, Bruce (Deb) Murphy, Denver; Max (Jackie) Murphy, Indianapolis, and Samuel Murphy (Kelsey Simpson), Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Angie (Rahb) Ricket, Michele (Rob) Cleaver, Tyler (Sara) Murphy, Spencer (Samantha) Murphy, Lacy (Phil) Buck, Matthias Murphy; and four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Baileigh Ricket, and Michael and Katelyn Cleaver; one sister, Julia (Phil) Martin, Morehead, Kentucky; and brother, Royce (Wendy) Murphy, Benefield, England.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Betsy Walker.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Denver Baptist Church, officiated by his grandson, Pastor Tyler Murphy, along with Pastor Tim Earle.

A time of visitation with the family will be held Friday morning from 9-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Denver Baptist Church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.mcclainfh.com.
