Catherine Doris (Cornell) Koistinen

March 4, 1931 — July 25, 2015

Catherine Doris Koistinen, 84, Peru, and formerly of Arlington, Texas, was welcomed into her eternal heavenly home at 11:06 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Community Howard Regional Health Systems, Kokomo, Indiana.

Born March 4, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of George Martin and Amanda Rask Helliksen Cornell.  On October 25, 1957, in Georgia, she began her fifty-seven year journey through life with her beloved husband, Kermitt Kenneth Koistinen, and he survives, living in Peru.

Doris was a devoted Christian who shared her passion and love for Jesus with anyone she met.  While in Texas, she was a member of the Tate Springs Baptist Church.

Truly believing that any stranger was only a friend she had not yet had the pleasure of meeting, she lived her life with a great passion and interest in the lives of other people. She was always willing to give a hug or lend an ear to anyone who needed a compassionate and great listener.

Throughout the years that God blessed her with life, Doris worked in several different industries.  In New York City, she appeared as a model in her youth before a career change took her to the banking business in Times Square.  In Rochester, Michigan, she worked for a clothing store, but her true talent was that of a homemaker, dedicating herself to her beloved family and taking care of them in any way that was needed.

In addition to her husband, she leaves behind two daughters, Linda Doris Astarita, Clawson, Michigan; and Lori Ann Cheever, and her husband, Gordon, Peru; four grandchildren, Amanda Joy Buck and her husband, Adam, Clawson, Michigan; Cynthia Lee Brindle and her husband, Jonathan, Logansport; Christopher Martin Cheever, Peru; and Jessica Lynn Cheever, Peru; and one great granddaughter, Elaina Grace Buck, Clawson, Michigan.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor George McCarty officiating.

McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Condolences may be sent online at www.mcclainfh.com.
