Charles William "Bill" Grimes, age 91, passed away July 16, 2011 at his home in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Bill was born at home in Denver, Indiana - parents Winifred and Clinton Grimes and two brothers, Robert (Bob) and James (Jim) Grimes.
Bill graduated from Peru High School and attended Purdue University till he joined the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII beginning as an aircraft mechanic, later becoming a pilot, being awarded the distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
After WWII, Bill was a test pilot at the Landing Aids Experiment Station in Arcata, California. In the earlier 1950s, Bill began working as a commercial pilot for Eastern Airlines until he retired in 1980.
Bill married Bonnie Green on July 17, 1948 in Eureka, CA. Bill is survived by his brother Jim Grimes: children Randy Grimes, Paul Grimes, Carla Opel, Brian Grimes, and Jan Grimes and grandchildren Matthew and Jennifer Opel, Michael and Tara Grimes.
A service will be held Wednesday, July 20th, at 10:00 a.m. at Westlawn Cemetery in Denver, Indiana with military honor guard in participation. Bill will be buried along side his wife Bonnie Grimes, who passed away August 2001. Arrangements by McClain Funeral Home/Denver.
