Darrell E. Tanner, 72, Amboy, passed away on Friday morning, July 1, 2022, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo.
Born September 6, 1949, in Anderson, Indiana, he was the son of Robert Darrell and Bonnie (Pruitt) Tanner. On October 29, 2000 he was married to Shelley J. Shimer.
After graduating from high school, Darrell enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he retired after twenty-one years as a Technical Sergeant. He then went to work in the maintenance department of Tyson Foods for seventeen years. He had been a volunteer fireman and was a member of the Patriot Guard, and V.F.W. He loved his family, extended family, horses, and especially his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Shelley Tanner, Amboy; children, Mark Bryant, DE; Chris Bryant, DE; Matthew Tanner, Kokomo; Michael (Kaylaa) Sheppard, Peru; Scott (Andrea) Sheppard, Peru; Carrie (Brad) Ashby, Peru; and Laura (Eric) Rivera, Warsaw; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Vaughn, Anderson; and Theresa Avington, TN; mother-in-law, Judy Shimer, NC; and brother-in-law, Scott (April) Shimer, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Brandie Steele and Cara Sheppard; and two great-grandchildren, Nataleigh and Haleigh Allen.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.
A private family graveside service with military rites will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Salem Cemetery, Bunker Hill.
