Bloomington, Indiana

David Jon Den Houter, 87, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 17, 2022 at his home.

Born July 21, 1934, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was the son of Willard and Louise (Brunsell) Den Houter.  On May 17, 1958, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was married to Marilyn Ann (Smith) Den Houter.

Dave was a proud graduate of “The” University of Michigan earning a Masters Degree in Social Work. He worked for Washtenaw County Juvenile Court, Wayne-Westland Community Schools along with Huron Valley Child Guidance Clinic. Growing up a half block from The Big House, Dave became an avid fan of U of M sports, despite the distress it often caused him. He was a life long Tiger fan too. Throughout his life he was very active and enjoyed swimming, fishing, and golfing. He even had a few hole-in-ones. In his teens, he was also an avid tennis player, and one summer he spent most of his idle time pitching horse shoes, until he could beat anyone in the family. He loved spending time with his favorite people, his grandchildren.

Dave will be deeply missed by his daughters, Leslie (David) Beebe, and Debra Den Houter (Dean Bilbruck); grandchildren, Elyse Beebe, Mark Beebe, and Leah Beebe; brother, Daniel (Elaine) Den Houter, and sister Mary (Duane) Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Willard Den Houter.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.  Condolences may be sent online at www.mcclainfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JDRF- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: JDRF- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
