Dean H. Mcguire

Dean H. McGuire, 99, Peru, and formerly of rural Denver, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at The Waters of Peru, where he had lived for the past several years.

Born August 25, 1924, in Miami County, Indiana, he was the son of Fred E. and Loree Helen (Howell) McGuire.  On February 26, 1946, at the home of the late Rev. C.F. Golden, near Chili, he was married to Virginia Lee McGuire, and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2005.

Dean was a member of the Denver Baptist Church, Mexico Lions Club, and a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge.  He had also attended the Chili Baptist Church for many years.  He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in Mexico, Indiana.  Dean retired from Peru Grain and had been a janitor at North Miami Schools.  Dean loved collecting antiques, and he was very proud of some of the items he collected over the years.  Many Saturday mornings were spent traveling to auctions around the area with his wife to add to their collection and spend time with friends.  Dean was a member of the North Miami Football Chain Gang for many years, and he was proud to be on the sidelines for the 1993 State Football Championship game.  Dean was a veteran of the United States Army and was a Purple Heart recipient.  He took great pride in his military service and was proud to be a member of the Miami County Military Rites Unit, never once missing a note when playing Taps at many graveside services.

Survivors include his best friend and companion over the past fifteen years, Dolly Garvin, Mexico; her daughter and one of Dean’s caregivers, Tammy Everroad, Peru; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Charles “Freddy” McGuire; and sister, Juanita Pearl Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Bryce Landon officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver with military rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites unit.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
