Donald Thomas Creek

September 24, 1929 — February 12, 2019

Mexico, Indiana

Donald Thomas Creek, 89, passed from this life on February 12, 2019.  He was an honest and hardworking man who was beloved by his family.

Don was born on his family's farm in Rush County, Indiana, on September 24, 1929, the son of Geneva Hall Creek and Glen Creek.  He began working with his father on the farm at a very young age, and his father built a custom-made seat on the tractor so he could operate it even with his short stature.  He graduated from Rushville High School in 1947 and enrolled in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University.  During his stay at Purdue, he took a year off and hitchhiked across the north and west areas of the U.S.  Among other things he did on this adventure was to help build a house in Minnesota, work for the Soil Conservation Department in New Mexico, and visit his great aunt in Chula Vista, California.  He then returned to Purdue and married the beautiful Imogene Patton at Liberty Chapel Church in rural Montgomery County, Indiana.  Don graduated from Purdue in 1952.  Don and Imogene lived in several places in Indiana and Ohio before settling down in Mexico, Indiana.

Don had a wry wit and was knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects.  He could build any sort of structure from the ground up.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife Imogene, sports, watching old westerns, playing cards, and spending time in the great outdoors.  He was an animal lover and he rescued many stray and unwanted dogs and cats throughout his life.  Don worked for The Federal Land Bank of Louisville for most of his life where he was a loan man on farm real estate in Miami, Wabash, and Cass counties.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna and husband, Gary Fitch; and SueAnn Binnion, all of Kokomo; and son, Daniel Creek, Peru; grandchildren Amanda Trott and husband, Doug; Stephanie Anne Moore and husband, Jerry: and great-grandchildren: Stewie, Victor, and Emma Trott, and Matthew and MollyAnne Moore.

In addition to his wife, Imogene, he was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ruth Pherigo Creek; brother, Richard; uncle, Denzel Creek and his wife Sally, who both helped raise Don; and one cousin, Robert Benham, who was raised like a brother to Don.

Services were private, and Don was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana.

Arrangements were entrusted to McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.
