Edna Ruth Fulk, 80, Muncie, passed away at 6:36 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at her nephew’s home in Peru.
Her sister, Virginia Joan Fulk, 82, Terre Haute, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.
Joan and Edna were born on the family farm outside of Riley, Indiana, and were the two middle children, and last surviving, of Amos Ralphord and Iva Edna Keziah (Wilson) Fulk. Preceding them in death were their three brothers, Ralphord Leroy Fulk; William Arthur Fulk, Sr., and Joe Ray Fulk; as well as their youngest sister, Nancy Kay McClain.
Joan retired from General Housewares in Terre Haute, and Edna from Cicoa in Indianapolis, where she was a social worker helping seniors across the state. Edna had a long career in social work and had also worked at Lifestream Services in Muncie and West Central in Terre Haute.
Both sisters attended Riley Elementary School in Riley, Indiana. Joan graduated from Riley High School in 1960, and Edna in 1962, from Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute. Edna went on to Indiana State, where she earned a degree in Home Economics Education.
Edna was a longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, and formerly Memorial United Methodist in Terre Haute. Joan attended Mexico Church of the Brethren and the Denver Baptist Church while living in Miami County. Both sisters were extremely talented with a needle and thread. They shared different talents in their artistic creations, Edna was mostly behind a sewing machine, and Joan crafting away with her perfect needlework. They both shared a passion for sports, cheering on their favorite high school, college, and professional sports.
The Fulk Family Farm was home to many over the years. Together, Amos and Iva helped raise siblings, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and perfect strangers who just needed a place to lay their head. Iva was always in her kitchen fixing meals for anyone who popped in the door. Those who lived at the farm over the years remember the vats of chicken and noodles, and the swing outside where everyone would gather to visit. If you were related, or if you just happen to stop by one day, you were part of the Fulk family, and you were always welcome back to share in the kitchen-table arguments over last night’s ballgame, eat a piece of pie, or cry on Grandma’s shoulder. There are simply too many names to mention in this large network of a family stemming from Fulks, Wilsons, Goodwins, and all the extensions, but all are remembered as being an important part of the lives of these sisters.
Aunt Joan and Aunt Edna leave behind their niece, Lori (Raymond) Urton, and nephews, Terry Fulk (Annette Anderson), Billy Joe (Cindy) Fulk, William Arthur Fulk, Jr., Bobbi (Wayne) Hamilton, Randy (Blythe) McDaniel, Terry McDaniel, Shari Blocksom, Scott Fulk, Cliffton (Charlotte) Fulk, TJ (Rachel) Fulk, Ryan (Charlene) and Bradley A. McClain; in addition to many great-nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Georgia Fulk. They were also preceded in death by their sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Fulk, Karen Kaye Fulk, and Hal W. McClain.
Edna is also survived by her children, Olivia Joyce Fulk, and Nicole (Antonio) Reza, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Bryce Foreman, Jessica Cunningham, Adrianna Gillam, Maria Castillo, Joseph Parks, Diana Parks, and Selena Reza; and one great-granddaughter, Oshynn.
Funeral services for both will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Memorial United Methodist Church, Terre Haute, with Pastor Charlotte Overmeyer officiating, with two hours of visitation prior to the service. Edna will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, Riley, with her parents, and Joan at Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with her sister, Nancy.
A time of visitation for Edna will also be held on Friday evening, August 2, 2024, from 5-6:00 p.m. at High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie.
