Edward F. Birk, 94, formerly of Macy, Indiana passed away Sunday morning at Hickory Creek of Rochester.
Born August 5, 1917 in Miami County, Indiana he was the son of John M. and Catherine Miller Birk. On April 6, 1940 at the home of Dale and Honor Maus Flora, he was married to their daughter, Juanita F. Flora, and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2007.
Ed was an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was a farmer and had retired from Torin in Rochester. He enjoyed working with stained glass and refinishing furniture. For several years, he and his wife both sang with the Notables in Rochester.
Ed was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather and leaves behind one son, James E. Birk and his wife, MaryJo, Defiance, Ohio, daughter Gloria Friedrich and her husband, Larry, Kewanna; six grandchildren, Amy Seeman and her husband, Dan, Greenfield; Dale Friedrich and his wife, Regina, Pierceton; Sara Birk, Lafayette, Louisianna; Megan Birk, McAllan, Texas; Dana Birk, Lumberton, NC; and Abby Bauer, Dublin, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Nataleigh Friedrich and Morgan Seeman.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John M. Birk and William B. Birk; one sister, Catherine Brower; and one step brother, Nick Petges.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at McClain Funeral Home, Denver with Pastor Wayne Balmer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.
Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. before the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund or Hickory Creek Aviary.
