Eva Marie Friend

Eva Marie Warner Friend, 89, Peru, and formerly of Macy, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Blair Ridge, Peru.

Born July 6, 1919 in Miami County, she was the daughter of Leores O. and Kate Wilson Warner. On October 16, 1941 she was married to Gerald D. Friend, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1997.

Mrs. Friend was a graduate of Deedsville High School and went on to attend Ball State Teachers College. She later received her Bachelor of Science degree from IU-Kokomo. She taught elementary school at Fulton, Grass Creek, Gilead, and North Miami Elementary.

She was an active member of the Mexico Baptist Church, the Allen Township Mother's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority, and the former Macy Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and genealogy.

Survivors include two sons, James L. Friend and wife Judy, Peru; and William C. Friend and wife Ann, Macy; six grandchildren, Samantha Ward, Jennifer Sprague, Chris Herrell, Mandy Galyean, Trisha Spencer, and Daniel Friend; nine great-grandchildren, Randy Marcus, Estella and James Ward, Rob and Harry Sprague, William and Sara Herrell, and Jacob Spencer; two sisters, Nada Miller and husband Paul, Jeffersonville; and Rosie Linn, Macy; one brother, Fred Warner and wife Barbara, Peru; and one brother-in-law, Granville Hattery, Fulton.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Leanna Friend; two sisters, Ann Hattery and Elizabeth Young, and two brothers-in-law, Acel Young and Dayne Linn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Mexico Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.

Friends may call from 2-8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Mexico Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be directed towards the Mexico Baptist Church or National Parkinson Foundation.
