Peru, Indiana

Frederick Eugene Ammerman Jr., affectionately known as "Freddie," was born on November 15, 1953, in Denver, Indiana, and passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Peru, Indiana. He was the beloved son of Frederick Ammerman, Sr. and G. Sue (Dickerhoff) Ammerman.

Freddie was a devoted father to Shawna Ann Ammerman, Lisa Gayle Ammerman, Leroy Frederick Ammerman, and Brett Allen DePoy. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Titan James Kaiser, Trent Allen Kaiser, Deion Cordell Ammerman, and Elyssa Anne Heeter. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In addition to his family, Freddie had a passion for music, often expressing himself through his guitar playing and his role as lead singer in the Almost Country Band. He was also a car enthusiast and found joy in competing as a demo derby driver, achieving several county fair wins, including the prestigious Indiana State derby title. His quick wit and sarcastic humor made him a joy to be around, and he had a knack for lifting the spirits of those around him.

Freddie was a dedicated member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles organization, contributing to his community and forming lasting friendships. He retired from Bryan Steam’s Maintenance Department in Peru, Indiana, where his skills and dedication were well-regarded for nearly forty years.

Freddie's spirit was characterized by his warmth and open-mindedness, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. His favorite saying, “If it hurts when you do that, don’t do that,” reflected his pragmatic approach to life. Above all, Freddie had a heart like no other, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Juel Ann (Mongosa) Ammerman; father, Frederick Ammerman, Sr.; siblings; Elaine Pavey, Peggy Hyde, Linda (Mike) Rody, Craig (Kathy) Ammerman, Kim (Buddy) Hetzner, and Becky (Jerry) Honeycutt; four grandchildren, Titan (Miranda) Kaiser, Trent Kaiser, Elyssa (John) Heeter, and Deion (Celena) Ammerman, and his six treasured great-grandchildren, Naomi, Johnny Keith, Nova, Titan Frederick, Preston, and Rain. Freddie's legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; son, Leroy Ammerman; brother-in-law, Lance Hyde.
