Frederick “Gus” Russell DeWitt, 83, Fulton, Indiana, passed away at 1:37 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at University Hospital IU Health, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Born March 31, 1934, in Cass County, Indiana, he was the son of Russell Irvin and Edith Mary Nice DeWitt. On September 29, 1967, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Twelve Mile, Indiana, he was married to the former Rita Anne Wolf who survives.
Gus was a 1952 graduate of Metea High School. He was then called to serve his country and was a United States Army veteran. He attended Fulton Baptist Temple. Growing up on a farm, he worked with his parents and enjoyed farming in his younger years before moving to town. For many years, Gus worked in the automotive parts industry, working at Paul-Richards Chevrolet, Peru, and Napa, Rochester, Indiana. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching sports and was an avid collector of John Deere toy tractors.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Anne DeWitt, Fulton; children, Melissa M. (Mark) Ray, Tennessee; Edward R. (Denise) DeWitt, Fulton; Machelle A. (Bob) Shipp, Georgia; and Michael G. (Tanya) Pine, Rochester; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and beloved canine companion, Emilee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, at McClain Fuenral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Bruce Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico with military honors being provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
