Gerald W. LaBounty, 86, Peru passed away at 2:04 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Born February 21, 1925 in Peru, Indiana he was the son of the late Dale James and Eva Garber LaBounty. On September 7, 1957 in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was married to Lottie Wattenberg, and she preceded in death on September 6, 2005.
Mr. LaBounty graduated from Peru High School in 1943 and went on to join the US. Marine Corps during WWII. He served in Okinawa and Guadalcanal. As a member of the US Army Reserves, he was called to serve again during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and The Forty and Eight.
In 1961, he graduated from IU with a B.S. in Business. He also was a licensed funeral director in Indiana and had held his license for over fifty years.
From 1996-1999, he served on the Peru City Council. In 1994 he was named Peru Citizen of the Year by the Peru Daily Tribune.
He was member of the Peru Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne Valley.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Anderson and husband David, Crown Point, Indiana; two grandchildren, Jacob Anderson and Madeline Anderson, both of Indianapolis.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Metzger Cemetery, Nead, Indiana with Rabbi Stanley Halpern. Family and friends are invited to go in procession to the cemetery, leaving the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Military Rites will be presented by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at McClain Funeral Home, Denver.
