Harriette Maxine Stofer Conner, 92, rural Mexico, passed away peacefully at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at her residence.
Born August 22, 1923, in Mexico, Indiana, she was the daughter of Cyrus and Grace Effie Armey Stofer. On May 3, 1942, at the Mexico Church of the Brethren, she married Lawrence Conner, Jr., and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2016.
Harriette was a lifelong member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren, where she served in many ways over the years including Sunday school teacher, and as a chorister. She retired from Wabash Valley Bank and Trust Company, and she was a member of the Jefferson Township Election Board for many years. Harriette loved being with people. She hosted many gatherings of family and friends over the years, whether it be a pool or pond party, family dinner, or gathering friends and family to go out for dinner.
The matriarch of the Conner Clan, she is survived by three sons, Eldon Conner and wife Jean, Peru; Glenn Conner and wife Donita, Peru; and Larry Conner and wife Diane, Peru; eight grandchildren, Cassie Smith (Kelly Shultz), Rochester; Bev (Tim) Middlekauff, Peru; Bret Conner, Peru; Bart (Katie) Conner, Westfield; Katrina (Jason) See, Denver; Jenny (Danny) Thompson, Shirley, Indiana; Lindsey (Jacob) Fife, Elkhart; Abby (Matt) Roberts, West Lafayette; great-grandchildren, Terry Smith, Taylor (Chelsea) Smith, and Travis Smith, Conner Middlekauff, Corbin Middlekauff, Kennedy Conner, Keegan Conner, Owen Page, Baylor Conner, McKenzie Conner, Austin See, Allyson See, Grace Thompson, Gabby Thompson, Caleb Fife, Chloe Fife, Madison Roberts, and Morgan Roberts; great-great granddaughter, Lillian Smith; and a sister-in-law, Janet K. Dalman, Holland, Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilda M. Burrous, Thelma R. Bixler, and Ruth B. Howell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at the Mexico Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.
Visitation will be from 3-8:00 p.m. on Thursday August 4, 2016, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
