James Larry Stone, 68, Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at his residence.
Born May 21, 1953, in Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of James Roy Stone and the former Dessie Mae Crowe. On January 19, 1975, in Peru, Indiana, he was married to the former Shirley Mae Gross, and she survives.
He graduated from Peru High School in 1971 and was retired from Square D Corporation in Peru in 2000 after twenty-six years. He continued working for Radio Shack in Peru and operated a residential cleaning business at Grissom for several years. He was a member of The Lord’s Fellowship Church in Peru since 1987, where he served as an active Elder and worked with the church’s nursing home ministry and outreach. Since moving to Kentucky in 2017, he attended True Vine Ministries in Irvine, Kentucky. He had a close personal relationship with his Lord, enjoyed studying the Bible, and sharing his faith with others. He was a musician and played guitar for most of his life, composing over forty songs, focusing on gospel-type music.
He was a charismatic personality and enjoyed fellowshipping with others. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips with his wife, traveling Route 66, and also visiting Mount Rushmore, Washington, D.C., Niagara Falls, Yellowstone, and many other places. He loved traveling anywhere and would strike up a conversation with any stranger, making friends wherever he went.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Stone, Ravenna, KY; three children, James Paul Stone, Peru; Joshua David Stone, Denver; and Jessi Brianne Stone, Denver; nine grandchildren, Dalton Williams, Ashlan (Kyle) Gilland, J.D. Stone, Josie Haskett, Claire Stone, Sophia Stone, Olivia Stone, Samuel Stone, and James Ern Stone; three great-grandchildren, Kayne and Kolsyn Sampson, and Nevaeh Gilland; one brother, Terry (Teresa) Stone, Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Robert V. Engle.
Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
