Janet Reed Overfield Spencer, dearly loved wife, mother, and friend, moved to her new heavenly address on Friday morning.
Born December 1, 1955, in Sacramento, California, she was the daughter of Richard Barbee and Joyce Leu Overfield. On July 15, 1978, she was married to Mark Spencer in Muncie, Indiana. He survives in Rochester, where he is pastor of First Baptist Church.
Her battle with ALS lasted over four years taking away everything but her smile, and her love for Jesus, family and friends. Jan was a loving and faithful pastor's wife; she enjoyed her church family. She was a role model to many and spent countless hours praying with her Moms in Touch group for children, loved ones, schools, teachers and her community. Teaching junior high Sunday School and small group Bible studies were part of her way of sharing her love for Jesus with others. Through her battle with ALS, she showed that God's strength is perfect even when we are weak.
Jan graduated from Muncie Northside High School in 1973. She went on to college at Purdue University and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Interior Design. She enjoyed her work as a residential appraiser and the many people she met through her business, JRS Appraisal Services.
She also leaves behind three children, Katie Miller and husband Tyler, Warsaw; Ryan Spencer, Indianapolis; and Reed Spencer, Rochester; two brothers, Richard B. Overfield, Lebanon; Travis A. Overfield, Muncie; and one sister, Tracy Osborne, Muncie; one sister-in-law, Karen Lux, Largo, Florida; and one brother-in-law, Paul Spencer, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
