John Francis Routt

John Francis Routt passed away on April 21 at the home of his daughter in Galena, Illinois surrounded by his loving family. John was 92, born in Wabash, Indiana on January 12, 1921.

John was married on November 28, 1946 to Betty Jane (Eggert) Routt who preceded him in death in 2009. John and Betty had five children: Dan Routt, wife Janice Routt; and their son, Daniel Routt; Patricia Alspaugh, husband Dave Alspaugh (deceased); and their son Jason Alspaugh and daughter Shannon Spaid and husband Aaron Spaid ; Janet Wakefield, husband Bill Wakefield; and their son Josh Wakefield and wife Kasey Wakefield and daughter Lauren Wakefield; Pam Ranly and Dick Biggs; and their son Jeremy Ford and wife Carlyn Ford ; and Wayne Routt (deceased); and his step sons Michael Lucas and Nicholas Black. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.

John was the son of the Susan and Thurman Routt. He had five siblings three preceded him in death and he is survived by sisters, Carolyn Shaw and Margie Blank.

John was a lifelong farmer and was retired from Dean's Foods in Rochester, Indiana. John proudly served in the US Navy during WWII.

John was a person who "never met a stranger." He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved a good game of euchre and belonged to a euchre club in Miami County for over 50 years. John loved working on the farm and drove a tractor well into his 80's. He was active with 4-H and raised Columbia sheep.

Services will be at the McClain Funeral Home in Denver, Indiana 46926 on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 24 from 4pm to 7pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Denver.
