Kent Allen Jones, 72, Rochester, passed away November 24, 2023, in Rochester.
Born October 8, 1951, in Fulton County, Indiana, he was the son of Kathryn M. and Francis Burnell “Shorty” Jones.
Kent was a 1970 graduate of North Miami High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, spending most of his time at Pease Airforce Base in New Hampshire attaining the rank of Sergeant prior to returning to civilian life. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts in Rochester. For several years, he had owned and operated a fertilizer business, serving the farming communities of Northern Miami County and Fulton County and also spent several years working at Hardesty Printing. He was probably most well known for his involvement with sports as a coach and umpire. He loved playing slow-pitch softball with his friends and was part of a team that played regularly at Maconaquah Park.
Survivors include three children, David A. (Deana) Jones, Peru; Boog L. Jones (Jennay) Jones, Macy; Casey E. (Terry) Faine, Peru; grandchildren, Kaylee Jones, Kokomo; Spencer Flood, Peru; Sam Jones, Peru; Logan Jones-Faine, Peru; and Ashley Faine, Young America; siblings, Mark Jones (Diane), Rochester, Lana Kuhn (Larry), Denver; Jane Jones (Bob Myers, Sr.), Mexico; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren, Coltin M. Flood, Tyler W. Jones, and Caytlin P. Flood-Hinkle.
Military rites and a service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana. Pastor Wayne Balmer will officiate. Visitation will follow from 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
