Lester Dee Carvey, 89, Macy passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2011 in the home where he was born.
Born March 24, 1921 near Macy, he was the son of Lester S. and Madge A. Calloway Carvey. On January 29, 1950 at the Fulton Baptist Temple, he married Donna Richter who survives.
Dee was a lifetime member of the Macy Christian Church and a member of the Macy Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and served his country during World War II.
After graduating from Macy High School, Dee graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science graduating in 1942 and went on to work for Shirley Brothers Mortuary in Indianapolis. After the death of his father, Dee returned to Miami County to manage and farm the family's land. He returned to college, graduating from Machester College with a Bachelor's degree in education. He then obtained his Master's degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. He taught for over forty years at schools in Burton, Plymouth, Peru, and finally in Rochester where he retired from Columbia Elementary School in 1985. Dee returned to funeral service in 1992, working at McClain Funeral Home in Denver.
In addition to his wife, Dee leaves behind one daughter, Kaye Hermann and husband Brad, Macy; one daughter-in-law, Gloria M. Carvey, Rochester; three granddaughters, Tanya K. McKee and husband Sean, Rochester, and their children, Kelsey, Kensey, and Karsyn; Lisa A. Reffett and husband Shane and their son, Jack Carvey Reffett; and Stacey A. Carvey-Schoenhals and husband Lukas, all of Rochester; one sister, Aretha P. Peterson, Omaha, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, Harry Richter and wife Dorothy, Rochester, and one sister-in-law, Helen Brutcher and husband Frank, Logansport.
In addition to his parents, one son Lester Bruce Carvey preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Macy Christian Church with Pastor David Welsh officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery, Macy with honors by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
Visitation will be from 2-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at McClain Funeral Home where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:30.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice or Macy Christian Church.
