Luther Paul Carrothers, 77, of Peru went to be with the Lord after a 6 year battle with ALS on Tuesday, March15, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Macy on September 7, 1933 to Victor and Ethel (Halterman) Carrothers. He married Lucille Wade on June 19, 1953, she survives.
Luther graduated from Gilead High School in 1951. He served in the US army in Korea from 1955 until 1957. He retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after 23 years. Luther was a member of Center Chapel Brethren Church and enjoyed woodcarving, bicycle riding, and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lucille, his children Cathy Whybrew (Richard) of Peru, Michael of Urbana, and Mark (Brenda) of Kirklin, his brothers Robert (Eunice) of South Bend, Willis of Macy, and Brice (Ruth) of Peru, 9 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Please join in celebrating the life of Luther at a visitation and memorial service at McClain Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19th. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm followed by the memorial service. Military honors will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
Memorial donations may be made through McClain Funeral Home to the Indiana Chapter ALS Association or Wabash-Miami Hospice.
