Lyman E Mcguire

June 1, 1921 — January 17, 2018

Lyman E. “Beezer” McGuire, Jr., 96, Denver, Indiana, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru.

Born on June 1, 1921, in Mexico, Indiana, he was the son of Lyman E. McGuire, Sr. and the former Grace Shilling.  He was married on April 25, 1942, to Rachel L. Benedict, and they were proud to reach the milestone of seventy-five years of marriage.

He was a member of the Denver Baptist Church and retired from the Nickel Plate Railroad as a yard conductor.  He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran where he served as a 1st Lieutenant Administrative Officer.  He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and received the American Campaign Service Medallion, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, Philippines Liberation Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.   He was a member of the VFW Post 1400 and a Charter Member of the National WWII Memorial.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel McGuire and their five children, Karen (Bob) Kindig, Rochester Hills, MI; Dan (Bev) McGuire, Springfield, Ohio; Linda (Steve) White, Hilton Head Island, SC; Ed (Patricia) McGuire, Mexico, IN; and Jeff (Lisa) McGuire, Charlotte, NC; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Joan Shoemaker, Denver, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Guinevere Green, and brother, Wayne W. McGuire.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, with Dr. Mark Spencer officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, Indiana, with military rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.

Visitation will be held from 3-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Blair Ridge for their loving care of Lyman and Rachel.
