Marilou Priscilla (Hartzler) Hoehne

Marilou Priscilla Hartzler Hoehne, 97, Sun City, Arizona, died Friday, May 20, 2022, in Arizona.

Born October 15, 1924, near Akron, Indiana, she was the daughter of Orville (Pete) and Ossie Junevieve Perry Hartzler. She married Owen Gene Hoehne on June 22, 1946, at Fulton, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2014.

A graduate of Fulton High School, she attended Manchester College, then was employed by the Farmers and Merchants Bank at Fulton and Rochester, Indiana, and then later by the Oxford State Bank of Otterbein, Indiana.  After moving to Phoenix, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Grand Canyon University and her Master’s degree from Arizona State University in Tempe. She taught English, Reading, Composition, and the Bible as Literature at Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix for twenty-two years before retiring in 1986.

Marilou was a seventy-six year member of the Fulton/Rochester Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority, Ventura Club, Local and National Questors Club, the Fulton Baptist Temple and Volunteer Services of Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City. She worked with Cub Scouts, Brownies, summer youth programs, enjoyed traveling and sewing, and was an avid reader.

Surviving are are two children, Robert Owen, Lubbock, Texas; and Priscilla Lynne of Sun City, Arizona; a sister, Martha Ann Leavell, Hastings, Nebraska; and a brother, James Hartzler, Rochester, Indiana; as well as ten nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her only grandson, Jeremy Robert Hoehne; her parents; and a sister, Lillian Sue Pownall.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Bruce Russell officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home.  A luncheon will follow at the FBT Center in Fulton.
