Marvin Leo Dillman

Twelve Mile, Indiana

Marvin Leo Dillman, 94, Twelve Mile, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at his residence.

Born on April 18, 1928, at the family farm near Twelve Mile, Indiana, he was the oldest son of the late Carl T. and Esther M. (Dewald) Dillman.  On August 8, 1948 at the home of his parents, he was married to Harriet Viola Burch, and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2013.

Marvin was an active member of the Corinth Brethren Church. He graduated from Twelve Mile High School in 1946.  He was a self-employed dairy and grain farmer in the Twelve Mile community for many years.  He was proud to have won the National Outstanding Young Farmer award, representing Cass County, Indiana, farmers in 1964.  Harriet and he travelled to many other NOYF conventions and made many new friends.  He simply loved entertaining, singing, playing his guitar, keyboard, and fiddle with the Over-the-Hill Gang, by himself, and any other musician who take the time to jam with him.  Dillman’s Pond was a place he and Harriet shared for family camp outings,  reunions, community hog roasts, square dancing, great food and conversation, baptisms, and private getaway outings for nursing home residents.  He loved spending countless hours crafting things in his shop for his friends and family.  His heart’s delight was visiting people, recalling family history and telling stories and crazy jokes pulling a few pranks. Many remember his distinctive laugh which could be singled out in any crowd.

He is survived by two children, Cathy S. (David) Gunter, Logansport; and Terry Marvin (Patty) Dillman, Twelve Mile; his grandchildren, Ronica Holt, Logansport; John (Kesia) Gunter, Twelve Mile; Benjamin (Brittany) Gunter, Logansport; Andrea (Daniel) Baker, Lucerne; Justin (Ashley) Dillman, Georgetown, KY; Whitney (Shawn) Wilson, Wakaka; four step-grandchildren, Melissa (Dan) Derflinger, Lafayette; Crystal (Dave) Wenzler, Winamac; Scott Carter and Kristen Hall, Logansport; great-grandchildren, Abby Howdeshell, Sarah Smith, Hannah Holt, and Emily Kinser; Jasmin, Ean, and Eli Gunter; Ethan, Cohen, Dylan Baker;  Preston, Paley, Paxton, and Presley Gunter; Evelyn Dillman, Gentry Wilson; step great-grandchildren, Gracie and Brodie Wenzler and Tyler and Colton Derflinger; great-great grandchildren, Duke and Leah Howdeshell, and Draven Holt; sisters-in-law Linda Dillman, Twelve Mile; Mary Jane Branson, Shelbyville; and Cecelia Finley, New Albany; brothers & sisters-in law, Raleigh (Mahila) Cox, New Lisbon, Frank (Betty) Burch, Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
