Mary Ann Crum O'Neal

Mary Ann Crum O’Neal, 94, of Denver, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, after a brief illness.

Mary Ann was born to Ervin and Annie (Tucker) Castleman on February 8, 1930, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, and grew up there with three sisters and two brothers. Mary Ann graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1947, and then studied at Highland Hospital School of Nursing graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1950. 

 She met the love of her life, Robert Crum, at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana while he was a cadet, and they were married on April 29, 1951, in Bernice, Louisiana, at the United Methodist Church. Bob and Mary Ann lived in many locations as Bob served in the Air Force. In 1965 they settled and made their home in Denver, Indiana, became members of the Denver Baptist Church and raised their three children. The last decade of her professional nursing career was served at Wabash Hospital in the surgical unit.

After thirteen years as a widow, Mary Ann married Huey O’Neal on November 26, 1999, and moved to West Monroe, Louisiana, where she resided for twenty-one years. After Huey’s death, she returned to Denver, Indiana where she lived with her daughter, Dixie, in the house she loved with a view of the farm. 

She is survived by her children, James (Peggy) Crum and Dixie Clem; grandchildren, Brianne (Bryan) Kendall, Nathan (Monica) Crum, Whitney Crum, and Elizabeth (Peter) Tynes; and great-grandchildren Heidi, Lily, Derek, Hattie, Vivienne, Will, Lucy, and Trevor. 

Mary Ann was preceded in death by husband Robert R. Crum; husband, Huey P. O’Neal; son, Russell Crum; granddaughter, Shawna Brooks; and siblings, Ervina Lynn, Gloria Reynolds, Kenneth Castleman, June Fitch, and Donald Castleman. 

A family memorial service will be held at a future date.
