Pastor Aaron Thomas McCombs, 58, Rochester, Indiana, gave his last gift to others as he became an organ donor on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Right before his gift of life was shared with others, his family offered these words: “The man in front of you today is a very special one.  The kindness you feel coming from his heart is only made by a full life of serving others.  He taught his friends to be their best selves.  He taught his family to love.  He taught his community to trust.  He walked with friends and strangers alike in good times and in bad all to lead them home to our Father in Heaven.  God now holds his hand as you help him with his greatest and final act.  God blessed us with a true hero.  He is flying a little higher today.”

Born May 21, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, he was the son of Fred and Florence (Heissinger) McCombs.

Aaron was a retired pastor having graduated from Lincoln Christian University, Lincoln, Illinois, and last serving the Kewanna Church of Christ.  In addition to being a pastor for over thirty-five years, he served on the South African Christian Mission Board and served with many Christian youth camps.  Active in his community, he had been a 4-H Leader, Boy Scout Leader, and Little League coach.

A man who is impossible to forget is remembered by his son, Brandon McCombs (fiancé, Ashley Stuber), Rochester; daughter, Aschlee Rieg and husband Dan Rieg, Westfield; six grandchildren, Noah McCombs, Kobe James, Kason Rieg, Eleanor Rieg, Noah Stuber, and Addison Coria; one brother, Kerry McCombs, Springfield, Illinois; and his beloved canine companion, Max.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Church of the Heartland, Rochester, with Pastor Daniel Bates officiating.  The service will be livestreamed at www.mcclainfh.com/livestream.
