Piper Renee Goodwin

Piper Renee Goodwin, age 9, Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, May 15, 2013 from complications of pneumonia.

Born December 17, 2003 in Terre Haute, Indiana, she was the daughter of Jeff W. and Dana R. Shepherd Goodwin. Piper was one of Riley's kids growing up. She was diagnosed at Riley Hospital with Pierre Robin Sequence, a condition that causes severe respiratory problems.

Piper was a first grade student at Dixie Bee Elementary School where she was in Mrs. Hendrix's class. She participated in the run club and was supposed to participate in the rush-the-punter race this weekend. Piper enjoyed playing outside, riding bikes, playing on the computer, and watching TV. As a mini 4-Her, she showed poultry at the fair and was supposed to show her turkey, Lulu, this summer.

She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Dana Goodwin, Terre Haute; three sisters, Ashley Poff and husband Tony, and their son Tommas; Sarah Goodwin, and Lee Goodwin; one brother Shepherd Goodwin, all of Terre Haute; maternal grandparents, Betty and Mink Shepherd, both of Terre Haute; paternal grandfather, Dallas W. Goodwin, Terre Haute; Godparents, Howard and Maria Shepherd, Canton, Georgia; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Ginny Vail Goodwin and one brother, Dominique Goodwin .

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Dixie Bee Elementary School with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m. before the funeral service.
