Ruth Frick

September 25, 1914 — October 6, 2009

Ruth Frick, 95, North Manchester peacefully departed into eternity at 2:30 a.m. on October 6, 2009 at home with her family. She was a former Mexico, Indiana resident where she made her home for over nine-two years.

On September 25, 1914, Ruth was born at the family farm near Mexico, she was the youngest child of the late Lewis and Mary Ida Bish Frick. She joined at home her beloved brother and sister, Lyman and Esther.

As a child, Ruth was lovingly cared for by her sister, Esther. Many years later, Ruth would return that same care as she tended to Esther's needs. The two sisters were together for more than ninety years sharing their home until 2007 when their health began to fail. They moved to North Manchester to be cared for by their family. Ruth's "best brother ever" passed away in 1988 and Esther in April of this year.

Ruth was a devout Christian and lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Mexico, Indiana. She was active in the church serving as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent for many years. Along with her sister and mother, the three women served as communion stewards for the church. Ruth's faith was strong and she shared her faith with others as often as possible. She ministered to all she met, even her doctors and the maintenance men who came to the house. Ruth's devotion to Christ was evident in her hope for salvation for all and in her constant prayers for others.

Ruth had worked for several years at the Mexico Post Office and eventually retired from The Peru Trust Company as a bank teller and mortgage processor and bookkeeper. Ruth shared with many her story of the bank robbery at Mexico. While the memory was painful for her to share, she expressed how her faith in Christ and her prayers that day kept her safe from harm and allowed her to forgive the act of greed she had witnessed.

Ruth was a talented craftsman creating treasures that many will remember for years to come. She was often found in her home with a crochet needle, patiently creating a new masterpiece of unique intricacy and fine quality. Ruth and Esther shared their love for friends and family with their many handmade gifts, even creating large projects together, such as lace tablecloths and bedspreads. Their love for gift giving was evident in the care and precision they took individually wrapping and decorating each package often with a hand crocheted bow.

Ruth was a caring woman who expressed her love and thankfulness for others through her extensive card ministry and letter writing. She felt it was important to acknowledge every act of kindness and each celebration in other's lives. In her last days, she recalled dates from memory and made sure that birthday cards that she had already finished were mailed. Ruth's love for words echoed not only in her writing but her passion in reading books of history, devotion, and most importantly the book of her faith, the Bible.

Ruth leaves behind her loving son and family, Rev. David Frick-Overmyer and his wife Karen, North Manchester; and grandchildren, Kristin Harp and husband Adam, Burket, Indiana and their children Aubrey and Brody; Kyle Overmyer, North Manchester; and Kelly Harp and her husband Isaac, Peru.

Ruth's life of Christian service will be remembered at 3:00 p.m. on October 9, 2009 at the New Life United Methodist Church, Mexico. Host pastor, Rev. Sam Polito along with guest pastors, Rev Larry Ray and Rev. Carl Sweet will share in memories and scripture. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.

Friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service in the church.
