Sandra L. Witmeyer, age 72, Denver, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, after complications from a brain aneurysm. Her family was by her side at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on June 1, 1946, in Peru, Indiana to Scott and Annabelle (Mabbitt) Newby. She was a 1964 graduate of Peru High School. She married Alfred "Fred " Witmeyer on September 21, 1968 in Peru, and he survives.
She went to beauty school but mainly was a stay at home mother and helped on the farm until she began her career at Grissom AFB. From February 1986 to March of 2009, she was former HRO Contracting officer at 434 Service at Grissom AFB before retiring. Sandy was full of sass and a very caring person to all that she encountered and did not know a stranger. She loved her family and had many dear friends.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Fred; 3 children, Shannon (Rose) Witmeyer, Melinda "Mendy" ( Brad) Rodeffer, and Fleet (Dusti) Witmeyer, and 6 grandchildren; Alleshia (Terry) Wheetley, Bridget and Chanelle Witmeyer, Fleet and Joey Witmeyer, and Hunter Rodeffer; and 2 great grandchildren, Terry and Kody Wheetley; and her 2 brothers; Stan (Diane) Newby and Joe (Luella) Newby.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents. She asked for closure with just family, then to be cremated.
The family would love to have a Memorial Celebration and to celebrate their 50th Anniversary that they were to have already celebrated while she was in the hospital. Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, October 20th, from 1-4 pm at Smitty McMusselman's Pub & Grub, 202 S Broadway, Peru, IN. 46970.
