Shirley Jean Hairrell, 80, Morrow, Ohio, passed away at 9:08 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 11, 2023, at her residence.
Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1942, in Peru, Indiana, she was the daughter of William and Rosanna (Alspach) DeWald. On November 22, 1967, she was married to Roger Hairrell, and he survives.
Shirley graduated in the second to last class from Gilead High School in 1960. She then attended Patricia Stevens Finishing School in Chicago, Illinois. She was employed by Montgomery Ward while she was attending school in Chicago. She lived in Madison, Wisconsin and worked for American Family Insurance before moving back to Indiana where she worked at General Tire, Diehl Machine, The City of Wabash (for Mayor Robert McCallen, Jr.), and Landmarking Management. After retiring from Wedcor, she and Roger moved to Ohio in 2005 to be close to their children. Shirley loved returning to Indiana where she could spend time sitting by Nyona Lake, enjoying the peaceful retreat with her family. Over the years, Shirley found a unique talent and enjoyed hanging wallpaper, something found most frustrating to others!
