Stephana J. Prather, 93, Mexico, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at her residence.
She was born August 3, 1925, in Huntington County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Edward and Effie Mae Stephens Schickedanz. On June 25, 1944, at the Mexico Church of the Brethren, she was married to Cedric Lee Prather, and he preceded her in death.
She was a 1944 graduate of Bunker Hill High School, and was an active member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren where she had served on the building committee. She was a member of the Jefferson Township Homemakers Extension Club for over fifty years. Stephana was a talented artist, creating hundreds of beautiful oil paintings over the years. For several years, she taught other artists how to create their own masterpieces. Stephana enjoyed being outside working in her flower garden and enjoying the beauty in nature that surrounded her.
She is survived by two sons, Daryle Prather and wife Janey, Peru; and Saryle Prather and wife Linda, Denver; daughter, Sharyle Hardymon and husband Al, Fishers; daughter-in-law, Miriam Mills, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Tharyle Prather.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, with Pastor Matt Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mexico Church of the Brethren.
