Wayne Orville Cole, 91, rural Peru, passed away at 9:38 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Parkview Hospital, Wabash, Indiana.
Born October 25, 1927, in Wabash County, Indiana, he was the son of Orville and Jessie Yount Cole. On June 15, 1957, he was married, by Rev. Austin Gable, to the former Laurabelle Eikenberry, at the home of her parents.
Wayne graduated from North Manchester High School and attended International Business College in Fort Wayne for two years. He had worked as an accountant for Burns Bakery in North Manchester and for several years was the office manager for Farm Bureau Co-Op in Peru. From there he went to work for the Miami County Highway Department as an accountant before his final post at the State of Indiana, Department of Family and Children’s Services, where he worked as an auditor. In his free time, he enjoyed refinishing antique furniture. He attended Peru Grace Brethren Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Laurabelle Cole, Peru; three children, Duane Cole and Eric Cole, both of rural Peru; and Talitha (Floyd) Fishburn, Denver; two grandchildren, Nathan Fishburn, Monterey Bay, California; and Michelle (Jeremy) Gressley, Denver; and one brother-in-law, Dallas Eikenberry, Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Wilbur Earl Cole, who was killed in action near Attica, Greece, on January 11, 1944, while serving in WWII.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
